The Gin Rummy Card Game

The Rummy card game known as "Gin Rummy" is one of the simplest variations of the game to learn and to play. It is a fairly fast-paced variety and offers players of all levels a few strategies to help them win.

The first goal of any game of Gin Rummy is to be the first player to dispose of all cards in the hand. This can be done in several ways:

• Going Gin – when a player is able to dispose of all cards at a single time without any "deadwood";
• Knocking – when a player has less than ten points in total deadwood and is the first to lay their cards on the table; or
• Undercutting – when a player has a lower deadwood count than the player who "knocked".

Deadwood means all of the cards that do not belong to any of the melds that a player is holding. Deadwood cards have point values and will bump up a player’s score in several ways.
